As Salt Lake and Weber Counties brace for multiple road closures, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has issued advisories urging drivers to review their travel plans for the coming days. The disruptions, which range from bridge repairs to sign replacements, are poised to impact major thoroughfares in the regions.

UDOT has announced that I-215 will be temporarily inaccessible at 2700 South in West Valley City from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. this Monday, October 21. In the days leading up to this closure, southbound I-215 is set to considerably narrow down to a single lane each night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The restrictions come as a necessary measure to "remove and repair the bridge beam at 2700 South, which was damaged when a tractor transporting machinery hit the bridge," according to UDOT.

Additionally, nightly lane and ramp closures in Salt Lake County are expected while crews work diligently to paint new lane markings on southbound I-15 near Midvale. The schedule includes the full closure of the southbound I-15 off-ramp to I-215 east and west on October 17 and the southbound I-15 ramp to I-215 from October 19-21. Within the same time frames, the 7200 S on-ramp to SB I-15, as well as the I-215 southbound collector ramp from eastbound I-215, will also be closed.

Signage is set to undergo an upgrade as well, with UDOT crews replacing worn-out road signs. Notable closures for these updates include southbound I-15's three right lanes from 900 South to 1300 South on October 18, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the 500 South on-ramp to I-15 on October 20. An additional replacement will take place on October 21, involving the northbound Bangerter Highway on-ramp to I-80 and North Temple, effectively halting access from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Over in Weber County, drivers should prepare to reroute their journeys as 12th Street (SR-39) in Ogden will close in both directions at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks (500 West) from the night of Friday, October 18 at 9 p.m. until Monday, October 21, at 5 a.m. This closure enables Union Pacific to carry out necessary reconstruction on the rail crossing. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes such as the 400 North or 21st Street I-15 interchanges. In emphasizing the importance of these precautions, UDOT underscores that construction schedules remain subject to the whims of weather and can change accordingly.

For real-time traffic updates during these construction activities, UDOT encourages the use of their traffic website or the UDOT Traffic app, available for both iPhone and Android devices.
