In a grim twist to a missing person's case, Utah resident Jennifer Gledhill has been charged with the murder of her husband, Matthew Johnson. According to ABC4, Salt Lake County District Attorney, Sim Gill, announced the charges on Tuesday, which include nine felonies, among them first-degree murder, after Gledhill allegedly shot her husband and disposed of his body in a shallow grave.
Information surfaced indicating that Gledhill's husband confronted her about her extramarital affair, leading to the alleged murder the following day. The series of events were detailed by a man, purported to be her lover, who claimed that Gledhill admitted to the act. This man's statement is a central piece to the prosecution's case, as he alleges Gledhill shot Johnson while he was asleep on Sept. 21, according to the district attorney's office.
Further investigation revealed a premeditated element to the crime, as detailed by KSLTV. The charging documents state, "The State believes that defendant was very calculating in her crimes in that she arranged for the children to stay with her parents during the evening Matthew was killed." Additionally, Gledhill is said to have requested her parents to extend the children's stay, presumably to clean the crime scene and dispose of the body.
Details from FOX13 add layers to Gledhill's narrative with the disclosure of a neighbor witnessing Gledhill's parents cleaning the home thoroughly on Sept. 24. Despite her mother claiming they were present for only an hour, the search of Gledhill's parents' residence led to the discovery of a plastic tote containing a Glock 19x gun box, concealed in a child's onesie, which matched the model Gledhill had previously shown to her admitted lover, as reported by FOX13.
On the day of the alleged murder, GPS data and security footage cooperated with Gledhill's movements, placing her at the location where her husband's truck was later found and capturing her at a service station in Salt Lake County cleaning her car. The case against Jennifer Gledhill is building as law enforcement, and prosecutors piece together a timeline of betrayal, murder, and calculated deception.
