Residents in Indianapolis and surrounding areas can expect a gusty day ahead with wind speeds that may reach up to 35 mph later this afternoon and into the evening. The agency has indicated that while today's forecast includes mostly sunny skies with a high near 73 degrees, the winds will shift from the west at 10 to 15 mph, with stronger gusts possible up to 24 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Tonight's weather should remain mostly clear with a low dipping around 46 degrees; however, the west northwest wind will be pushing at a sturdy 14 to 16 mph, bustling with gusts as high as 32 mph making it feel colder than the actual temperature suggests, so plan on layering up if you're heading out. Looking ahead, Columbus Day will bring partly sunny conditions with a high near 59 and northwest winds continuing at 10 to 13 mph.
For those concerned about possible showers, there's a slight 20 percent chance come Monday night, with the weather expected to turn cloudy before gradually clearing up, while the low is projected at around 41 degrees. "Wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible late this afternoon and into the evening," according to the NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook.
The outlook for Tuesday through to Saturday hints at mostly sunny days with highs ranging from the mid-50s to the low 70s, however it seems the region might need to brace for a chill as "Confidence is increasing in the potential for widespread frost Tuesday night and Wednesday morning as lows fall into the mid 30s," as per the NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook.
