Worcester's Neighborhood Response Team officers took to the streets of Millbury St. yesterday and their vigilance has promptly led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man on charges of drug distribution. According to a press release by the Worcester Police Department, the suspect, identified as Daniel Bell, was already wanted on active warrants related to drug distribution when he was spotted around yesterday noon.
Detectives, originally there to seemingly conduct routine surveillance, moved quickly to apprehend Bell. During the arrest, authorities discovered substances that appeared to be crack cocaine and suboxone on his person. This finding swiftly escalated the situation, leading to additional charges. The police statement indicates that Bell is now facing multiple charges that include but are not solely limited to Distribution of a Class B Substance (second or subsequent offense), Possession of a Class B Substance with intent to Distribute, Withholding Evidence from a Criminal Proceeding, and Resisting Arrest.
The Neighborhood Response Team, an arm of the Worcester PD, is well-known for its focus on community issues such as drug activity, and its efforts on Millbury St. highlight a continued commitment to combatting illegal drug distribution in the area.
Details about the subsequent legal proceedings for Bell are currently unavailable, but factors such as his previous record and the nature of the alleged offenses are expected to heavily influence any forthcoming judicial actions. Expanding on what was revealed by police, it's understood that officers were able to quickly develop probable cause that Bell had been involved in selling crack cocaine, justifying the additional accusations leveled against him.
