Residents of East Albany Park and Albany Park are on high alert following a series of armed robberies that recently shook the quiet of their neighborhoods. As reported through a community alert by the Chicago Police Department, an unidentified individual has been targeting locals, catching them unawares, and making off with their personal items.
The pattern is unsettlingly consistent: victims are approached from the rear, confronted with a robbery demand, and relieved of their possessions, believing the perpetrator to be brandishing a firearm. The incidents struck the 4400 block of N. Sawyer Ave. early at 3:10 a.m. and later on at 12:10 p.m. on the 4600 block of N. St. Louis, the assailant, an African American male, aged between 18-20 years, with a height ranging from 5'7" to 5'11", and a weight approximately between 150-170 lbs., flees before they have a chance to get a good look.
Authorities are urging the community to be vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and take note of any distinguishing features of potential suspects. Community members are advised to not engage in pursuit of suspects but rather share any valuable information with the police service.
In the event of witnessing such an incident, the community is reminded to seek contact details from any witnesses and to maintain composure despite the potential fear such confrontations might evoke, the goal is to impede the assailant's ability to continue this spree of theft and intimidation, rather than to seek justice on one's own.
