A suspect is now behind bars after a reported kidnapping triggered an early-morning response from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. According to the official press release, the incident occurred at a Roethe Road apartment complex in the pre-dawn hours of Monday.
Following a distressing call shortly before 2:00 a.m., from a mother whose daughter had been abruptly taken, deputies arrived on the 4600 block of SE Roethe Road. The young girl, merely 11 years of age, recounted her ordeal. She was walking when a man suddenly abducted her, forcing her into his red truck. After a short drive, she managed to escape near a residential area.
The swift police action led to the tracking down of a red 1998 Ford F150, and the subsequent arrest of Felipe Hernandez Martinez, 47, a resident of unincorporated Milwaukie. Matching the frightened girl's description, Martinez now faces serious charges including Kidnapping II and Harassment. The Sheriff's Office revealed that Martinez's bail is set at an imposing $250,000.
Officials have released Martinez's booking photo, stemming from this incident, aimed at assisting law enforcement purposes. In light of Oregon House Bill 3273, this action aids in the identification of potential additional criminal activities by providing the community and possible victims a face to connect with reported crimes. According to the Sheriff's Office press release, this incident is just one part of a larger investigation as authorities work to gather more information and seek additional tips from the public.
Those with information pertinent to the purported kidnapping on SE Roethe Road or related incidents are encouraged to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
