With the holiday season upon us, Coon Rapids is getting into the spirit of generosity with their Season of Giving Kick Off event this Sunday, November 24. According to an announcement on the City of Coon Rapids website, the Coon Rapids Ice Center will host festivities from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., promising games, prizes, and more for the community. Attendees are encouraged to start this charitable time of year by bringing a donatable item to the event.
The evening's activities offer a blend of indoor and outdoor fun, including a featured appearance by the city’s beloved mascot Rocky, and a variety of games and prizes designed to delight the younger guests. For those looking to take a spin around the rink, a Buy One, Get One free indoor public skate admission is available with a donation. Weather permitting, guest can also enjoy free outdoor skating and ice games. The event also serves a showcase for the Fire, Police, and Public Works departments, with vehicle displays for all ages to explore.
Following the Sunday festivity, the Season of Giving donation drive commences on November 25 and runs through December 17. Donations can be dropped off during regular business hours at City Hall, located at 11155 Robinson Dr. Additional city-hosted collection sites include the Ice Center, Bunker Hills Golf Club, and all Coon Rapids Fire Stations where toys, food, and more can be donated. Acceptable donation items span from new, unwrapped toys and winter gear, to non-perishable food and toiletries—as well as monetary contributions.
The collected donations will support a range of local initiatives and assistance programs. Beneficiaries include the ACBC Food Shelf, Toys for Joy and the Christmas Committee, Alexandra House, Granny's Closet, and Mercy Hospital Partners. This initiative exemplifies the spirit of community and compassion that Coon Rapids aims to embody during the season of giving—and offers several ways for residents to get involved and contribute to those in need.
