A tragic incident occurred in Cornelius last week when a pedestrian was struck and killed in a traffic collision while riding a motorized scooter. The Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the scene near 2240 Baseline Street at around 4:49 p.m. last Tuesday. According to the news release, the pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Tammera Whisman of Hillsboro, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics.
The Sheriff's Office has notified Whisman's family of her passing the vehicle driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and as of now, is said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations, and as it stands, no criminal charges have been filed against them.
In the aftermath of the crash, the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team was dispatched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The team is tasked with piecing together the events that led up to the fatal collision in an effort to better understand the causality and, if necessary, recommend safety improvements or policy changes to prevent similar tragedies in the future, as reported by the Washington County Sheriff's Office's official website.
