The El Paso Police Department's Pebble Hills Regional Command Center was temporarily closed Monday after a "suspicious item" was found in its parking lot, situated at 10780 Pebble Hills in East El Paso. The station, which found the object near Lee Trevino Drive, was declared safe following an investigation that determined the item was non-threatening, as reported by KFOX-TV.
During the closure, police operations were disrupted as the investigation unfolded. As obtained by KVIA, EPPD officials confirmed that the station was closed to the public while crews worked to assess the nature of the suspicious item. Though details regarding the specifics of the item were not disclosed by authorities, the situation was addressed with utmost precaution, having shut down the facility as part of standard safety protocols.
After a thorough examination by the appropriate authorities, the item in question was deemed to be harmless, and the command center resumed normal operations. Police have not provided details about the characteristics of the item that led to the initial concern, as noted by KTSM, which also stated, "Police did not say what exactly the item turned out to be."
The Pebble Hills Regional Command Center's reopening marked a swift conclusion to an incident that could have otherwise escalated into a public safety concern. Residents, having been temporarily barred from the facility, were once again given access to its services. With such incidents, the prompt and measured response of the EPPD in ensuring the public's safety is a manifestation of their commitment to the safeguarding community despite the false alarm on this occasion.
