A tragic incident unfolded in the Grant Hill neighborhood, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old Hispanic man following a violent altercation. According to a press release from the San Diego Police Department, the encounter occurred near the intersection of 27th Street and L Street last Friday afternoon, with officers arriving at the scene around 4:46 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man with at least one stab wound and significant head trauma.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been publicly disclosed, was given CPR at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away. In the aftermath, two suspects, 37-year-old Emilio Torres Valencia and his 17-year-old son, were detained. The father received treatment for injuries sustained during the incident before being booked into County Jail, while his minor son was taken to Juvenile Hall.
San Diego Police's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. It has been revealed that this fatal encounter stemmed from a chain of confrontations dating back to a prior altercation one month ago over vandalism that was not reported to the authorities. When the victim and one of the suspects crossed paths again, tensions escalated, leading to the vandalism of the suspect's vehicle and its subsequent collision with a power pole.
The incident also involved the victim’s 15-year-old son, who was present at the scene but later released into his mother's custody without facing charges. San Diego Police are now seeking information from witnesses and reviewing footage from the area as part of their investigation efforts. Anyone with relevant details is urged to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
