A former theater and choir teacher from the Avon area has been arrested on charges of child exploitation, according to local authorities. 28-year-old Kayvon Emtiaz is currently held in the Marion County Jail following a distressing revelation of his alleged misconduct. WTHR reports that a video brought attention to the situation, which seemingly captured Emtiaz engaging in inappropriate activities within a school setting.
An investigation initiated from a tip provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led police to discover materials, included explicit photos and videos exchanged between a male and a 13-year-old girl, as mentioned in an explicit Snapchat exchange pinpointed to Emtiaz’s device. During an interview last Thursday, Emtiaz reportedly confessed to the allegations, believing the girls involved were underage as told to the police.
Emtiaz has a history of employment within the Avon school system from November 2019 through December 2022, taking roles at various institutions, including White Oak Elementary, Avon Intermediate School West, and Avon Middle School North. FOX59 reports that his teaching license expired in August 2024, and no charges had been filed against him in Indiana before this incident.
Following the arrest, the Avon Community School Corporation confirmed Emtiaz's immediate termination from any extracurricular involvement, including choir and theater roles. Kevin Carr, the Communications Coordinator for Avon Schools, disclosed in an email that, "We are unaware of any allegations connecting these charges and Avon students," also adding that all of Emtiaz's access to school facilities were revoked, a statement obtained by FOX59. His involvement with Avon Community Schools extracurriculars, immediately ceased following his arrest, was also detailed.
No bond information or mugshot has been publicly released, and online court records have yet to reflect an initial hearing, as Emtiaz remains in police custody. Additional inquiries regarding the situation have been directed towards the Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School where Emtiaz was issued an emergency educator permit, though they have not yet responded to requests for comment.
