Earlier today, a blaze erupted at a long-abandoned former Golden Corral restaurant on Indianapolis' far east side, summoning multiple units from the Indianapolis Fire Department to the scene. The fire, which began around 4:10 a.m. in the 10000 block of E. Washington St., was fierce enough to send flames and smoke billowing from the roof of the structure, as reported by FOX59.
Footage captured at the desolate location, now four years disused based on an old Facebook post, depicted the building severely charred by the conflagration; IFD officials have confirmed that thankfully there were no injuries resulting from the incident, this statement having been corroborated by both WRTV and WTHR.
While the cause of the fire remains under active investigation, speculation about what could have sparked the flames at this once-popular dining establishment just a stone's throw from the Washington Square mall, now stands as hollow as the structure itself. According to a social media post cited from the former restaurant, the location has not seen the bustle of diners since roughly four years ago.
Authorities have yet to determine the origin of the fire, no one was reported injured. Adding to the account of events, Google Maps data reflects that the restaurant ceased operations at least as far back as 2021, rendering this husk of gastronomy all the more forlorn in the pre-dawn blaze as mentioned by WRTV.
