An Indianapolis woman lost her life in a vehicular collision at a Bartholomew County rest area this past Saturday, as reported by Indiana State Police.
45-year-old Omotope G. Oyediran was behind the wheel of a 2011 Honda CRV traveling on Interstate 65 southbound, when for reasons yet to be determined, she veered off the west side of the roadway. According to a press release FOX59, her vehicle proceeded to collide with a 2020 International semi-truck that was parked at the nearby Columbus rest area. It was about 9:45 a.m. near mile marker 73 when the tragic incident occurred.
At the moment of impact, the semi’s driver was inside the sleeper cabin and miraculously escaped unharmed. Oyediran, however, suffered severe injuries from the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. "Oyediran's car then traveled into the rest area and struck a parked semi truck," stated WTHR.
The ongoing investigation is being handled by Master Trooper Tommy Walker from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, with assistance from additional troopers and the ISP-Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Support was also provided by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team, as well as local emergency services. As per The Tribune, Indiana State Police have conducted toxicology tests, the results of which are currently pending.
No further information regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash has been released at this time. The Indiana State Police encourages anyone with information pertaining to the crash to come forward as they continue to piece together the events of this unfortunate accident.
