A series of armed robberies perpetrated by a 24-year-old Cutler Bay resident culminated in an adrenaline-fueled car chase that unfolded across Miami-Dade County last Saturday, with the suspect eventually being apprehended by Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers. The suspect, identified as Patrick Alzugaray, is now in custody facing multiple charges.
According to NBC Miami, the crime spree began at the Orion Gas Station on NW 79th Avenue, where Alzugaray pointed a weapon at a cashier and subsequently left with cigarettes after being told there was no money in the cash register. He then escalated the situation by stealing a Hyundai Santa Fe, as the terrified passenger looked on and fled from the vehicle in panic.
From there, Alzugaray’s escapade continued to a Shell Gas Station on Miami Beach, where he successfully acquired about $200; his attempt at a subsequent robbery at a Marathon Gas Station, however, proved fruitless. As per the arrest report, the final act of this crime wave was at Club Madonna on Washington Avenue, where Alzugaray snatched a tip jar containing approximately $200. Alzugaray was tracked down to Cutler Bay, where after failed PIT maneuvers, his vehicle became inoperable, leading to his on-foot capture by troopers.
In a detailed account by 7News, dashcam footage revealed the intensity of the pursuit, as officers maneuvered to arrest the fleeing Alzugaray. Once the suspect bailed from his vehicle on Belgrade Road, the FHP was quick to demand his surrender, leading to the stark visuals of his arrest now circulating on media platforms. "Let me see your hands! Come out with your hands up!" and, "Get on the ground!" were among the commands heard in the footage as Alzugaray obeyed and was subsequently taken into custody, where he remains charged with armed robbery, carjacking, among other offenses.
