On a tense Wednesday in Rutherford County, a domestic disturbance escalated into a standoff when 24-year-old Zykaria Velazquez threatened to kill two women, leading to his arrest. As reported by WSMV, deputies were called to the scene on Barfield Crescent Road after one of the women's screams for help were heard by neighbors.
According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Velazquez barricaded himself inside a home, however, the two female victims managed to escape unscathed before deputies arrived. Cpl. Daniel McGee shared with WGNS Radio that "There were no apparent injuries to the suspect, victim or deputies during the incident."
The standoff concluded successfully after the Sheriff’s Negotiations Team engaged Velazquez, persuading him to end his barricade and surrender peacefully. He was then taken into custody without further conflict. Details from Fox 17 confirm that Velazquez is now facing two counts of felony aggravated domestic assault as well as interfering with an emergency 911 call.
"Velazquez is being held on $32,000 bond at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center," the authorities disclosed, with a hearing scheduled for January 14 in General Sessions Court, duly noted by WSMV and echoed in reports from other local news outlets.
