New Orleans has introduced its own Walk of Fame to honor not just celebrities but also influential figures from various fields. According to a recent announcement from the City of New Orleans, this initiative will include a physical landmark, with each honoree represented by an engraved Fleur-de-lis.
The NOLA Walk of Fame seeks to honor its inductees and change how the city engages with its history and future. Mayor LaToya Cantrell highlighted the significance of recognizing the diverse individuals who contribute to the city, especially with preparations for Super Bowl LIX underway. She noted the support of partners like Percy 'Master P' Miller and the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce in bringing this initiative to life.
Situated at the end of Canal Street where it meets the Mississippi, the NOLA Walk of Fame is projected to attract over 7 million locals and tourists each year. Beyond being a tourist attraction, it also has an educational focus aimed at benefiting youth. The initiative includes learning experiences based on the city’s history, such as mentorship and internship programs.
Community development and engagement are central to the initiative. Syrita Steib, founder and CEO of Operation Restoration, stated their commitment to creating pathways to success through education and fostering connections within the communities they support. She noted the organization's role in the project, where they will serve as a fiscal sponsor to help guide the NOLA Walk of Fame in celebrating the city’s history while promoting educational growth and community ties.
Percy Miller and the NOLA Walk of Fame Committee are establishing a legacy that recognizes the city's history and aims to support future generations.
