The Bay Area is dealing with heavy rainfall from an atmospheric river, which is especially affecting the North Bay. The National Weather Service says the rain will continue, with the worst hitting the North Bay before moving south on Friday. Santa Rosa Airport has recorded 7.07 inches of rain, and some coastal mountains in Sonoma County have seen over 10 inches.
Residents in North Bay should brace for ongoing inclement weather, with numerous Flood Advisories in place and a "Flood Watch in effect for the North Bay through Saturday morning", according to NWS San Francisco. Furthermore, Wind and High Surf Advisories are also active, raising concerns about potential downed trees and power outages. Shifts in the weather are anticipated to bring warmer temperatures, although accompanied by humidity and overcast skies. The South Bay and Central Coast can expect spotty showers and brief sunshine, respectively, until the cold front moves in by the weekend.
Regarding aviation, gusty southeasterly winds continue to affect flights, with the National Weather Service forecasting gusty S/SE winds through the period and cautioning against scattered rainfall, which could impact visibility and cloud ceilings. The gusty S/SE winds are expected to persist, particularly affecting the North Bay terminals, with chances of conditions dipping to IFR during periods without rain showers.
The marine forecast isn't faring much better, with a warning from NWS San Francisco for heavy rain and strong winds across the northern waters that will creep southeastward by Friday. Mariners are urged to heed the Gale Warning, which has the potential for seas up to 20 feet and winds approaching storm force levels. Adding to the chorus of warnings, an update from the NWS Bay Area's social media post advised that "Rain is slowing down across the North Bay and will become more scattered over the next 18 hours or so with pockets of moderate rain. However, persistent heavy rain will enter the picture again by Friday morning. We are not done!" portends a continuation of the deluge.
