Atlanta was rocked by a series of shootings yesterday morning that left one man dead and multiple people injured on Conley Road SE. The Atlanta Police Department responded to the chaotic scene after the first incident, which involved four individuals sustaining gunshot wounds. As reported by Atlanta News First, police arrived at an apartment complex around 12:15 a.m. to find a 28-year-old man shot, who was then promptly rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
Witness accounts, as outlined by FOX 5 Atlanta, describe how the violence began to unfold near a convenience store on Conley Road SE near Jonesboro Road. The 28-year-old victim recalled hearing gunshots and shortly after realizing he had been hit. It is believed to have escalated from a fight over a gun between one of the victims and an unknown suspect, which tragically proceeded to turn into an exchange of gunfire.
The aftermath saw three additional victims, a 23-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man, all with gunshot injuries, arriving at a nearby hospital by private means. They were reported as alert and conscious when officers found them receiving medical attention.
In a concerning development just hours later and barely a half mile away, a second shooting incident resulted in claiming the life of a 44-year-old man. Atlanta police believe the man may have accidentally been shot near a residence in the 1000 block of Conley Road SE at 5:58 a.m. The identification of the victim has yet to be released as the investigation into what appears to be an accidental shooting continues, as detailed by FOX 5 Atlanta.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigations into both shooting events are ongoing. These incidents closely follow another shooting on Friday night, in which a 26-year-old man was shot numerous times also on Conley Road SE.
