A tragic accident at the Amazon facility in Port St. Lucie claimed the life of a mechanic today, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Andrew Tabannah, 42, succumbed to injuries sustained after being crushed beneath an Amazon delivery van during an apparent equipment failure at the distribution center.

According to CBS12, the incident occurred shortly after midnight when Tabannah was conducting maintenance work supported by a jack stand. The Port St. Lucie Police Department reported that the jack stand, unfortunately, gave way causing the van to collapse and trap Tabannah beneath it.

Quick action by Tabannah's coworkers, who placed additional jacks under the van to free him, was noted. Despite their efforts and the subsequent emergency response, Tabannah was declared deceased at Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, as per the release obtained by CBS12.

Detectives from the Port St. Lucie Police Department are leading the ongoing investigation, with cooperation from OSHA to determine the accident's cause. As the procedures unfold, the death is currently classified as accidental, and no foul play is suspected, WFLA reported.

The results of the investigation are pending.
