Portland resident Teddy Wayne Hall, Sr. was sentenced to 240 months in prison for the murder of Raja McCallister. McCallister was fatally shot in November 2022 following an argument with Hall about parking spaces at the Cora Park Apartments in southeast Portland's Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood, announced the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office today.
The violent altercation on November 23, 2022, prompted a police response after reports of a shooting at 4207 SE 37th Avenue. Officers found McCallister with multiple gunshot wounds. Efforts by first responders to save him were in vain, as he was pronounced dead at the scene. Eye-witnesses, alongside the video evidence, laid the grounds for the case against Hall who, after a dispute, shot the unarmed McCallister four times. A critical detail that emerged was Hall's admission of feeling threatened despite McCallister being weaponless and not physically aggressive.
As reported by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, Hall was taken into custody a few hours after the incident. He later pled guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm before Judge Christopher Marshall yesterday.
In a collaborative effort to bring justice, Deputy District Attorneys Aileen Santoyo and Maddie Loeb led the prosecution. The Office expressed its deep condolences to the family and friends of McCallister and extended thanks to all contributors in resolving the case. Special acknowledgment was made for the efforts of MCDA Investigators Matt Estes and Anthony Merrill, and Victim Advocate Hope Hansmeyer.
