According to the Portland Police Bureau, additional law enforcement efforts included canceling officers' days off and having them work 12-hour shifts to ensure full staffing and readiness.
On Thursday, the Portland Police Bureau reported 13 arrests on charges including illegal firearms possession, drug offenses, and theft. Officers conducted 156 traffic stops, issued 105 citations, and towed 6 vehicles. From Tuesday to Wednesday, officers made over 1,200 contacts with businesses and community members, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau.
During Election Week, the Portland Police Bureau focused on both maintaining order and providing alternatives for individuals who might otherwise enter the criminal justice system. Portland Police Bureau completed 16 deflection transports to the Pathway Center. They also increased patrols at ballot box locations for added security. These efforts led to several recoveries, including a loaded handgun, illegal drugs, and a stolen vehicle. Additionally, a traffic stop uncovered a DUI, drug offenses, and unlawful firearm possession.
