The Redwood City Police Department responded to a late-night shooting at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Adams Street, which occurred on September 25. The victim, an adult male now in critical but stable condition, was found with a gunshot wound and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, as reported by Hoodline.
In connection with the investigation, 18-year-old Redwood City resident Payton Russi was arrested as the suspected shooter. However, the weapon used in the crime has not been found. Further investigations by the Redwood City Police revealed that additional individuals were involved in events before the shooting. Among the suspects is a minor attending McKinley Institute of Technology, who has since been arrested for an unrelated strong-arm robbery of another student at the school on October 10, according to the Redwood City Police Department.
The series of incidents continued yesterday as detectives executed a search warrant, naming the minor as a suspect. Anticipating the need to minimize confrontation, detectives approached the individual at McKinley Institute of Technology. The minor became confrontational when asked to remove his backpack, leading detectives to use a control hold for safe detainment. This was recorded on the detective's body-worn cameras.
The minor was arrested for the robbery and is currently at the San Mateo County Youth Services Center. The connection between the robbery and the earlier shooting remains a focal point for law enforcement.
