A tense situation unfolded in Pompano Beach as the Broward Sheriff's Office, along with SWAT, engaged in a standoff at a local residence following an armed robbery incident yesterday morning. The altercation began after deputies were dispatched to the area near NE 14th St. and Riverside Dr. following a report of a man being robbed at gunpoint by two unidentified individuals near 300 Sunset Dr. Despite attempts to establish communication with the suspects, they chose not to exit the residence, leading SWAT to intervene.
After several hours, the standoff concluded with a man and a woman being taken into custody, as reported by CBS News Miami. The suspects’ refusal to surrender to authorities prompted law enforcement to take decisive action, engaging in a tactical operation to ensure their capture. However, as of yesterday evening, no charges were filed and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident continued.
Details provided by Gerdy St. Louis, a BSO spokeswoman, indicated that the deputies had initially been in search of two suspects connected to an early morning armed robbery. This detail was also corroborated by Local 10 News. Eyewitness accounts describe the dramatic scene with neighbors recalling continuous shouts from law enforcement: "Come out with your hands up!" Quinto Perichon, living in proximity to the event, was instructed by deputies to remain inside for his safety. He told Local 10 News, "I was scared ... It takes one silly person to just fire a shot and that’s when things get messy."
Photographs shared by onlooker Hunter O’Hanian with Local 10 News show individuals in handcuffs being interviewed by deputies, signaling the temporary resolution to the alarming activities of the day. As the commotion settled, detectives urged anyone with information about this or other cases to reach out to Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
