The incident, which resulted in one fatality and left another individual in critical but stable condition, occurred late Friday evening. Officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call at approximately 11:41 p.m. that reported a shooting near 1045 East 2100 South, this confrontation has sparked concurrent homicide investigations, marking a night marred by violence, as reported by SLCPD.
Details gathered from the initial investigation indicate that a dispute among several individuals escalated, during which a 26-year-old man is alleged to have discharged a firearm, hitting a 38-year-old man, paramedics quickly transported the victim to a hospital where he is now receiving treatment; the argument persisted, and a 30-year-old man is accused of wresting the gun away and shooting the 26-year-old who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old was detained along with other parties involved in the incident which, as detectives believe, arose from an isolated personal dispute.
SLCPD's update further states that detectives are actively continuing their investigation and have reassured the public that there is no broader threat to community safety. However, the specific motive behind the initial argument is still under scrutiny.
