The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) recently made a significant arrest in a narcotics trafficking investigation involving a suspect believed to be active around 6th and Market streets. According to an official release from the San Francisco Police Department's newsroom, the arrest of 22-year-old Axel Narniel Escoto Amaya occurred on Tuesday after officers observed him at 5th and Market Streets and found probable cause to take him into custody on charges of narcotics trafficking.

Revealed over the past month, the investigation spanned multiple agencies, including the SFPD Narcotics Unit, the San Francisco Sheriff's Office, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Army National Guard. Observing the suspect, officers found him in possession of suspected Fentanyl and methamphetamine, leading to his arrest. The collaboration evidenced here illustrates the concerted effort by law enforcement to tackle the trafficking issue plaguing the city.

After the arrest, a coordinated search warrant was executed at Amaya's Oakland residence, yielding an alarming array of illegal items. Discoveries included more than a kilo of fentanyl, over 100 grams of methamphetamine, 1.5 pounds of marijuana, loaded firearms, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, and items indicating involvement in narcotics trafficking and manufacturing. Among the firearms was a machine gun, possession of which is unlawful.

Following the seizure of these narcotics and weapons, Amaya was booked at San Francisco County Jail on various charges. These charges, as articulated by the SFPD, include sales of controlled substances, possession for sale of several drugs, armed with a controlled substance's illegal possession, unlawful possession of a machine gun, and maintaining a premise where narcotics are used or sold, among others.
