Two individuals were taken into custody in Clark County on Wednesday, facing allegations of a string of bank robberies spread across Oregon and Washington. Identified as 31-year-old Andrew Bekman and 28-year-old Amira Askew, both suspects were charged with first-degree robbery, and the arrest came after the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT team served a search warrant at their residence in Battle Ground around 9:30 a.m. This information comes from a recent report by KOIN.
The investigative effort revealed not only clothing that matched descriptions from over ten robberies but also firearms, ballistic vests, and stolen vehicles. Additionally, a chilling note stating, "This is a robbery. I have a gun. Empty your till," was unearthed among the suspects' possessions. In an unrelated event, the suspects were linked to a bank robbery at Umpqua Bank in the Salmon Creek area on November 6th, where the duo reportedly donned masks during the heist and fled with cash of an undisclosed amount. The clothing and notes seized during the arrest mirrored what had been described in those robberies, as noted in the report by KATU.
Bekman and Askew's arrest came after a citizen's tip, which was crucial in identifying them as suspects. The arrests, lauded by the authorities, highlight the important role the public can play in aiding law enforcement. Following their arrest, both suspects reportedly confessed to the robbery at Umpqua Bank along with several others, solidifying their involvement in the crime spree. Details of their confession and the sequence of events leading up to their capture were reported by KPTV.
