A Tinley Park man is facing serious charges after a prolonged standoff with police on Halloween, per an announcement from Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart.
The confrontation began shortly after 10:30 a.m. when authorities, including the Sheriff’s Police Hostage and Barricade Team, Sheriff’s Police Negotiators, and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team converged on a home located in the 17900 block of South Harlem Avenue, authorities discovered Jason Soltis, 54, had barricaded himself and two other individuals inside armed with a firearm, this situation persisting for nearly 17 hours according to the Sheriff's Office report.
The standoff was brought to a close early on Nov. 1 around 3:38 a.m. when a single gunshot from within prompted officers to make entry, taking Soltis into custody without further incident, alongside their discovery of two female victims, one bound and both subsequently hospitalized for evaluations but neither injured from the gunfire as the Sheriff's Office details.
The subsequent investigation led to felony charges against Soltis for Aggravated Kidnapping with a Firearm and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, his initial court appearance for these charges is scheduled for today at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse; even though the charges are serious it's important to note, as stated by authorities, that the defendant is "presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
