A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train derailment in Vado, New Mexico, has prompted traffic detours and road closures. According to KTSM, the railway operator confirmed that a locomotive and one car derailed on Monday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m. Mountain time. The incident did not occur on BNSF's main line and thankfully resulted in no injuries.
Local authorities are currently carrying out investigations to carefully determine the cause of the derailment. While the main line remains unaffected, the incident has led to traffic being diverted. Motorists are advised to seek out alternate routes. A similar derailment happened in 2020 in the same area, as reported by KFOX-TV.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has issued an alert, advising drivers to reduce speed while navigating through the vicinity of the derailment. As obtained by KVIA, NMDOT requests that drivers obey the posted signs and watch out for any emergency personnel and equipment in the area. Commuters are encouraged to exercise additional caution and to expect delays as clean-up operations are underway.
