The Portland Police Bureau is reaching out to the community, requesting assistance in locating a missing child from the Portsmouth Neighborhood. Nahiru Tibata, a 12-year-old boy, has been missing since the early hours of Sunday, according to a police statement. The young boy left his home on the 9600 block of North Fiske Avenue and has not been seen since.
Nahiru is described as a black male, standing 5’9” tall, and weighing 170 pounds. Last spotted wearing his "Grinch" pajamas, which are green, red, and black, his family reported that the boy speaks Swahili and does not speak English. Adding to the urgency, it's noted that Nahiru has the cognitive behavior of a 3-year-old, making him particularly vulnerable.
Authorities are circulating a photo of Nahiru in hopes that someone will recognize him and provide information leading to his safe return. Members of the public are encouraged to report any sightings or information they may have regarding his whereabouts.
The PPB underlines the importance of community vigilance in cases like Nahiru's, where language and cognitive challenges may impede his ability to seek help. The police ask anyone with information to contact them, emphasizing that even seemingly insignificant details could be crucial in ensuring the child's safety. Found wandering alone, Nahiru may not be able to communicate effectively with those trying to assist him.
