A Utah man, Sayed Zeinullah Mousavi, is facing charges of terrorism after being arrested in Sandy. Mousavi was apprehended following his alleged threats to "kill Americans" and "shoot up" the local police department, as per reports from FOX 13 and KUTV.
The incident began when a Sandy police officer spotted Mousavi in a vehicle reported stolen. Mousavi attempted to flee but was soon apprehended after the officer disabled the car. During the arrest, Mousavi reportedly told the arresting officer "he was going to kill Americans," according to FOX 13. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a piece of paper with a written message pressing for military and diplomatic actions abroad, and detailed threats against specific groups and institutions.
In statements obtained by KUTV, authorities reported finding writings that called for "Pressure Israel to cease fire with killing significant jews in Gaza. And lets take non hostage. Only soldiers/male government. Conduct assignation of leaders. Attack Military sites with most expensive bombs. Plant bombs inside Z-jets." Mousavi also expressed intentions to "kill Americans and kill the U.S.A" and revealed plans to procure firearms for an assault on the Sandy Police Department.
Following his arrest, Mousavi was ordered to be held without bail, awaiting a pretrial hearing, as reported by ABC4. He allegedly told detectives of his plan to execute the threats and suggested that the authorities should "watch the news in two weeks to a month" should they doubt his resolve. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill underscored the gravity of the situation, saying, "We appreciate the work of the Sandy Police Department taking this potentially dangerous defendant into custody," and affirmed, "This office will always take seriously threats against our community safety."
