On Sunday afternoon, a fire broke out in a residential kitchen on Bay Farm Island. Thanks to the prompt response of the Alameda Fire Department, the flames were quickly subdued, averting a potentially larger crisis. The blaze was reported at 3:53 p.m. in the 400 block of Baywood Road, drawing a significant response from the local firefighters.
According to the fire department's social media update, the initial team included three engines, two trucks, one medic unit, one chief officer, and the Alameda Care Team. Upon arrival, firefighters witnessed smoke billowing from the first floor of the afflicted home, and they rapidly located and extinguished the source in the kitchen. It took about 10 minutes from the time of the report for the crew to bring the situation under control, and a search confirmed that no individuals were inside the residence at the time of the incident.
In the aftermath, no injuries were reported among either the firefighters or the residents. However, the American Red Cross was called upon to assist with rehousing efforts for one adult and two children displaced by the incident. Utility companies, including AMP and PG&E, were also notified as part of the protocol to ensure safety and restore services.
