An Altamonte Springs man tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in West Palm Beach. The victim, 44-year-old Drew Robert Winters, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross 45th Street late Friday night, according to CBS12. The collision occurred just west of the I-95 interchange around 11 p.m.
Authorities were alerted to the scene after a 911 call reporting an unconscious man lying on road, where West Palm Beach Fire Department paramedics ultimately pronounced Winters dead. The search for the culprit ensued, and the vehicle, a 2009 Chrysler, has since been recovered in Lone Pine Estates in Riviera Beach, as reported by WPTV. No arrests have been made in connection with the fatal accident.
The West Palm Beach Police Department's traffic homicide unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death. The silver car involved in the incident fled the scene immediately after the crash, and authorities are actively searching for the driver. Two westbound lanes of 45th Street were closed for several hours as police gathered evidence and took photographs.
