Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) is slated to boost its destination offerings in the coming year, adding nonstop services to four additional cities. Travelers will soon be able to fly directly from Austin to Jacksonville, Fla., Memphis, Tenn., Milwaukee, and Reno, Nev., come 2025. This expansion was reported by KVUE just before the close of the year.
The move to add new routes comes even as ABIA experienced a drop in the number of nonstop destinations in December—by approximately 10%. The decline was largely due to American Airlines, based in Dallas, opting to discontinue service to 30 destinations. Furthermore, the airport is bracing itself to potentially face an overall slowdown in passenger traffic in 2025, according to MSN. Despite this, the plan to seemingly amp up travel options may partly serve to offset this anticipated downturn.
Indeed, the projection for the early months of 2025 is not bright, with airlines preparing for less travel, particularly in January and February. However, the consensus is a slight uptick in service will occur by March.
