Residents in Bridgeport are on high alert following a series of residential burglaries. The CPD's community alert pertains to two incidents that took place on the 3200 Block of South Lithuanica Ave. The first break-in occurred on December 24, during broad daylight hours, while the attempt of a second was prevented later on December 27, as reported by the Chicago Police Department (CPD).
With the suspect still at large—described as a Black male wearing a black North Face coat and khaki pants—the CPD is urging residents to remain vigilant. Heightening concerns, these burglaries align with the annual spike in property crimes during the holiday season. In response, the CPD has issued preventive guidelines, advising the public to keep properties well-lit and secure all potential entry points, including doors and window air conditioning units.
The police have advised residents to enhance their home security and vigilance. Actions suggested include immediate reporting of any suspicious activities and preservation of video surveillance footage when applicable, as per the CPD.
If unfortunate enough to fall victim to a burglary, the community alert was emphatic: "do not touch anything, call police immediately." It also encouraged securing testimonials from potential witnesses, emphasizing the gathering of contact information that could aid in the investigation.
