A misfire at the iTHINK Amphitheatre restroom led to a Palm Beach County deputy’s firearm discharging, resulting in a bystander being struck by a fragment. The incident occurred on Tuesday. WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm reported the deputy was handling her duty belt when her gun inadvertently hit the ground and fired.
A woman, who positioned a few stalls down, found herself in the unwelcome path of a dislodged fragment. This stray shard from the deputy's gun did not necessitate medical attention, as confirmed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office has remained silent about the full details of the incident. At the time of the inadvertent discharge, the South Florida Fairgrounds was bustling with law enforcement personnel who gathered for a public memorial. They congregated to honor the memory of three of their own fallen in a tragic crash on Nov. 21.
In an earlier, somewhat related event, CBS12 detailed how the Indian River County Sheriff's Office conducted a department-wide weapon swap a year ago. A deputy had suffered injury then, sparked by his handgun's accidental discharge.
