
After an intensive overnight stakeout just days before Christmas, law enforcement officials apprehended a 33-year-old Chicago man suspected of mail theft and condominium burglary. The United States Postal Inspection Service, in collaboration with Chicago police, conducted the operation that led to the arrest of Matthew Hutcheson on December 24, as per information obtained from the Chicago Sun-Times.
Hutcheson is now facing multiple charges including burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of fraudulent identification, as well as a misdemeanor for resisting a police officer. His apprehension took place after officers had to patiently wait throughout the night to finally secure his custody. The arrest occurred near 60 East Benton Place, which is in the vicinity of the initial burglary site on North Carpenter Street, detailed on August 26. Adding to his record, in June 2024, Hutcheson was previously arrested but was able evidently to evade his scheduled court appearances while on pretrial release.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has remained vigilant against crimes impinging upon the integrity of the postal system. "The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is dedicated to defending the nation’s mail system from criminal activity," Inspector in Charge of the Chicago Division, Ruth Mendonça, conveyed in a statement outlined by FOX 32 Chicago. The joint task force's successful stakeout is a testament to their commitment to safeguarding both personal correspondence and property.
