At a recent hearing, Daniel Medina-Guerrero, a 27-year-old Chicago man previously convicted of felonies, was denied pre-trial release by a DuPage County judge after being charged with possessing a loaded firearm, as reported by the DuPage County State's Attorney's office. Charged with a Class X Felony, Class 2 Felony, and additional misdemeanors and petty traffic offenses, Medina-Guerrero faces severe consequences under Illinois law.
The arrest took place on Monday when Elmhurst Police Department detectives apprehended Medina-Guerrero related to a prior fleeing and eluding incident. The search of Medina-Guerrero's vehicle yielded a stolen, loaded SAR-9 9mm handgun underneath the driver's seat, which was reported stolen from Dayton, Ohio, in January 2023.
"The law is crystal clear, as a convicted felon, Mr. Medina-Guerrero has forfeited his right to legally possess a firearm," stated Robert Berlin, DuPage County State’s Attorney. Chief of Police Michael McLean echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the Elmhurst Police Department will not allow criminal activities, especially those involving firearms, to go unchecked.
Medina-Guerrero's next court appearance is scheduled for January 21, 2025, where he will be arraigned in front of Judge Brian Telander.
