As businesses in Area Two of Chicago reel from a series of commercial burglaries, local police are stepping up their alerts. The modus operandi is consistent: offenders chain the front door and yank it off its hinges with a stolen vehicle, then raid the establishment for cash registers, ATMs, and retail goods. The spree, as detailed in a business alert by the Chicago Police Department, has struck numerous locations, ranging from the 10600 block of South Torrence to the 100 block of West 103rd St, between September 8 and last Tuesday.
In light of these incidents, the police have issued recommendations for business owners, including the installation of robust lighting and prompt repair of any structural weaknesses. The offenders have been described as multiple individuals clothed in dark apparel, including hoodies and masks, which makes identification challenging. Victims and witnesses are urged to report suspicious activities and provide any video surveillance footage to the authorities.
