In a bid to enhance road safety, the department will deploy a DUI Saturation Patrol from Saturday evening, December 7, through the early hours of Sunday, December 8, according to the department's recent announcement.
Officers are set to focus intensively on monitoring vehicular traffic to detect any sign of inebriation behind the wheel. This initiative not only aims to catch drunk drivers but also seeks to vigorously enforce traffic regulations related to speed limits, seat belt use, and other alcohol-related infractions. Speed detection-equipped police vehicles will be on the lookout, ready to swiftly apprehend those daring to exceed the set velocity limits.
This isn't the first operation of its kind; a similar patrol was conducted in the 20th (Lincoln) District the previous weekend. Last instance's patrol results, detailed by the Chicago Police Department, included zero DUI arrests but led to a range of other offenses including five unsafe vehicle violations, one seat belt violation, and one citation issued for driving without a license.
