Banks is accused of orchestrating a plot targeting Georgia rapper Quando Rondo, which led to the fatal attack on Rondo’s cousin. Defense attorneys argue that relying on lyrics from Banks’ music demonstrates a weak case, asserting that the prosecution lacks concrete evidence to support the charges.
The legal team's statement, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, conveys their view that the usage of song lyrics is a "glaring indication that there is no real evidence" and labels it as "false and lacking in the most basic due diligence." Banks faces further charges in a superseding indictment, which could result in life imprisonment, and has been held without bail since his arrest on October 24. Notwithstanding the gravity of his situation, Banks maintains his innocence and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment last month. A detention hearing is slated for December 12, with the trial set for January 7.
