Chicago neighborhoods Andersonville and Uptown have been marked, unsettlingly, with a particular phrase in white spray paint: "Kill your CEO." This graffiti, according to the Chicago Police Department's community alert, has surfaced on the outer walls of unsuspecting businesses within the 019th (Town Hall) and 020th (Lincoln) Districts.
The incidents, which spanned across various locations including blocks of N. Clark Street, N. Broadway, and N. Sheridan Rd, seem to have occurred between the evening of December 7 and the evening of December 8, as detailed by the CPD. The callous acts were committed under the cover of darkness, perhaps a cowardly attempt to avoid the light of accountability. Yet, as of now, the police have no description of the offender, or offenders, responsible for the vandalizing spree.
Local business owners and residents are urged to take preventive measures: illumine the perimeters of their properties, remain vigilant, and pay heed to any unusual loitering or suspicious activities. Those with surveillance systems are encouraged to maintain them in working order and to preserve footage that could lead to the perpetrator’s capture, as reported by the CPD.
Should you encounter a situation that strikes a nerve of concern, the authorities request that you "Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including, any vehicle description and license plate information," as stated by the CPD. Furthermore, if approached by someone claiming to be a witness to the misdeeds, make sure to obtain their contact information.
