A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a carjacking incident that occurred at Green Hills Mall. Identified as 22-year-old Richmond F. Cheah from Clarksville, the man was apprehended by Clarksville Police, which is also his hometown, following a brief pursuit.
According to the Nashville Government’s official site, Cheah reportedly trailed a 62-year-old woman from the mall's parking garage, bided his time, and followed her to her Mercedes sedan car. In a parking garage, he confronted her with a pistol, demanding her keys and purse. The victim complied, and Cheah fled with her vehicle. Tracking technology used by detectives later indicated that the car had been driven to Clarksville.
A Davidson County arrest warrant has been issued for Cheah, charging him with aggravated robbery. "He will be returned from Clarksville in the near future," as detailed by the Nashville government's official release. Cheah initially refused to give his identifying information upon arrest, demonstrating resistance to cooperating with law enforcement.
Local authorities were able to locate and apprehend the suspect following a tip-off to Clarksville Police, facilitated by the use of the stolen vehicle's tracking technology. After a pursuit, whose presence of the technology in the car was crucial to the investigation's success, they were able to take Cheah into custody. There has been no statement from Cheah, and the timing of his transfer back to Davidson County has yet to be publicly disclosed.
