Drivers in Davie, brace yourselves for a bit of a squeeze on University Drive as the town rolls out improvements to its sanitary sewer mains. According to the Town of Davie's announcement, Murphy Pipeline Contractors, Inc. are the folks behind the tools and machinery that will be replacing the existing sewer force mains north of University Drive and Orange Drive starting yesterday, with the work expected to wrap up by Monday.
During the day, northbound traffic on University Drive will see one lane closure, and as the sun sets, prepare for not just that one but two lanes to shutter until dawn, this means it's likely your evening commute could get even stickier than your typical rush hour crawls. Westbound Orange Drive is taking a hit too; it's closing from SW 78th Drive to University Drive, and if you're coming from those parts, you'll be rerouted to Griffin Road to get where you're going. Local eastbound traffic, your lane stays open.
Now, the town wants residents to expect outdoor noise—think beeps, bangs and the occasional roar from the construction equipment doing what it's intended to, and rest assured, despite the commotion, your flushes will flow uninterrupted as no sewer service will be affected while the work is underway.
For the pedestrians, business patrons, and bus riders among you, your access from University Drive won't be cut off, a heads up that making contact with the Davie Utilities Operations Department at 954-327-3742, or visiting their website might give you a little more insight on what's shaking under and above ground.
