An early morning crash on Christmas has left a semi-truck in tatters after it careened off Highway 149 in Cunningham and plummeted into a wooded embankment. According to Clarksville Now, the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. with the driver being the sole occupant in the 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. The truck reportedly veered off the road without its trailer attached, making its unfortunate descent into the surrounding woods, ultimately crashing into a creek.
Firefighters from multiple units, including Cunningham, Palmyra, and Saint Bethlehem, had to carefully execute a rescue operation using a rope system to extricate and raise the driver back to the roadway. As stated by Dash 10 Media on Facebook, the patient was airlifted to Nashville for treatment post-rescue. The emergency response also noted the involvement of Montgomery County EMS and Montgomery County EMA.
The circumstances surrounding the crash's cause are currently under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Montgomery County Sheriffs. As reported by WSMV, this investigation is ongoing, and officers were at the scene alongside firefighters and emergency medical teams. There have been no further details about the driver's condition or any additional injuries resulting from the crash.
To manage the aftermath of the crash, Jones Towing was called out to recover the semi. Dash 10 Media has confirmed that no other injuries were reported beyond those sustained by the driver, and suggested the possibility that a pet was also present during the accident, considering Montgomery County Animal Control's attendance. More details regarding the specifics of the incident are expected to be released following the investigation by law enforcement agencies.
