Christmas Eve in northwest Oklahoma City was marred by a vehicular accident that left one individual critically injured after an unforeseen rollover crash; the Oklahoma City Police Department reports the incident took place near Lake Hefner Parkway and Interstate 44, a spot familiar to drivers but unexpectedly treacherous for one on Tuesday afternoon.
The sequence of events, as per News9's report, started when the driver veered off the road, the car careening through the median and ultimately colliding with a wall which led to them being ejected from the vehicle, and it exacerbated traffic flow since the on-ramp to northbound Lake Hefner Pkwy from NW 39th EB/I-44 SB and the right lane of NB Lake Hefner Pkwy ended up blocked for an extended period.
Further elaborating on the ordeal, KOCO shared that the crash occurred around 5 p.m., with the driver being the sole occupant of the car; the police have yet to determine what precipitated the loss of vehicle control that resulted in critical injuries to the driver, who was swiftly transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.
An update from KFOR confirmed the reopening of the northbound on-ramp to Lake Hefner Parkway, indicating that the efforts of emergency crews cleared up the scene of the accident which according to police, involved a woman losing control while driving and being thrown from the vehicle.
