A 54-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian critically injured in East Nashville, according to WKRN. Michael D. Williams is accused of vehicular assault by recklessness and fleeing the scene of an accident after striking a pedestrian on Porter Road Monday morning.
Law enforcement responded to the scene around 9:30 a.m., where a bystander was able to follow the suspect to a residence after Williams' Nissan Armada was seen accelerating uncontrollably, spinning and mounting the sidewalk, hitting the 54-year-old victim. The victim was subsequently thrown into the roadway, as per a statement from the Metro Nashville Police Department obtained by Fox17.
Home surveillance footage provided critical evidence, showing Williams accelerating to the point of losing control before the crash, a detail confirmed by MNPD. Following the apprehension of Williams, it was also determined that he was driving on a revoked license, this being his fourth such offense in the last decade, as reported by WSMV.
The injured pedestrian was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to receive care for critical injuries. The road conditions were slick due to wetness, which is believed to have contributed to Williams's loss of control. Williams, securing a $35,000 bond, now faces charges that include leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, vehicular assault by recklessness, and driving on a revoked license, which happened after turning left from the Berkshire Place Apartments according to the police statement obtained by WKRN.
