The El Paso Police Department is gearing up for the season of giving back by participating in the "Shop With A Cop" event, set to take place on December 14, offering a unique holiday experience to children associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso. According to the El Paso Police Department, the kids are in for a treat as they get to shop alongside police officers at Walmart, choosing gifts and toys to celebrate the festive season.
This initiative not only provides a brighter holiday for the young participants but also forges a bond between them and local law enforcement, officers are joined by peers from other agencies to turn a day of shopping into an affair of the heart EPPD takes pride in their second year of involvement in such a heartwarming community event. While the event itself is not open to general public participation, members of the press are invited to capture the holiday spirit during the event, scheduled between 8:30 am and 11:00 am at the Walmart Supercenter located at 4530 Woodrow Bean Transmountain.
Lending a helping hand during these times does far more than simply putting toys under a tree, it humanizes the badge and replenishes the often-strained trust between communities and those sworn to protect them. The police department, along with partners like Walmart and other law establishments, clearly sees the "Shop With A Cop" program as an investment in community relations as much as it is an act of charity, and Walmart's role offers a setting away from the often-tense streets where these relationships can begin to heal and grow.
