The Eugene Police Department is reaching out to the community to identify a good Samaritan, known only as "Mikayla", who had offered critical aid during a highway accident. The event unfolded on November 16, when Deputy Chief Shawn Adams, who was returning from the Oregon Peace Officer Association conference, chanced upon a severe head-on collision on Highway 18, near the Willamina Junction, around 11 in the morning.

"Mikayla", described as an ER nurse, immediately jumped into action to assist Adams in providing emergency care to one of the involved drivers. In a statement released by the City of Eugene's official website, Deputy Chief Adams recollected that there was a brief moment where he and Mikayla conversed quickly to determine which of them was better trained to take the lead on providing care. It was during this exchange that Adams learned her name and profession.

Adams lauded Mikayla's crucial contribution, saying, "Mikalya was amazing.  I believe she may have saved this driver's life.  At a minimum I know her efforts positively impacted this driver and she needs to be recognized for the skill, effort and compassion she displayed for the 30 or so minutes we were inside this crushed Prius  while firefighters were cutting the roof off the car.” Despite her heroic act, Mikayla left the scene before emergency responders were able to properly identify her.

The department urges anyone with information about Mikayla to come forward to enable them to properly acknowledge her actions. Adams made it clear that her intervention not only showcased her professional ability but also her profound compassion. The mystery ER nurse's identity remains unknown, yet her deed resonates with the community she chose to selflessly serve. Her aiding hands at the accident have left a mark of altruism and professional dedication that the Eugene Police Department earnestly seeks to honor.
