Burrel "Chip" Davis, the former police chief of La Vergne, found himself behind bars on charges of aggravated stalking, as per a report shared by the Murfreesboro Police Department. Davis, whose tenure as chief has been marred by controversies, including a sex scandal that led to multiple officer terminations, was arrested at a Murfreesboro apartment complex just before the clock struck 5 p.m. on Monday, according to an article from WKRN. The arrest was executed with no reported altercations.
The beleaguered ex-chief's latest legal woes stem from allegations of violating an order of protection, leading to police action and his subsequent detention at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. "He was taken into custody on a warrant for aggravated stalking after allegedly violating an order of protection. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center," WKRN detailed. This incident follows closely behind the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission's unanimous vote to rigorously decertify Davis as a law enforcement officer.
A former figure of authority, Davis was previously embroiled in a scandal within the La Vergne Police Department involving allegations of sexual misconduct among officers. The sordid affair resulted in firings and shook the department to its core. In connection with that scandal, a spokesperson from the Murfreesboro Police mentioned that Davis was arrested without incident, as noted in a report by NewsChannel 5.
Despite his legal team's efforts to clear his name and sue for reinstatement and back pay earlier this year, Davis's actions seem to consistently trail back into the spotlight, complicating any attempts to fully to move beyond his tarnished reputation. In detailing his current predicament, WSMV reported, "Burrel Davis was arrested Monday evening at an apartment complex in Murfreesboro." He was held on a $3,000 bond, as stated by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
