Fort Lauderdale residents and visitors are advised to avoid swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, and other water activities in certain areas of Las Olas Isles and a section of the New River due to wastewater contamination.
According to the City of Fort Lauderdale release, the affected areas include the finger canals on the north and south ends between Isle of Capri and Lido Drive, as well as parts of the New River. The specific boundaries are Sunrise Key Blvd to the north, SE 7 Street to the south, N. Gordon Rd, S. Gordon Rd, and Isle of Capri to the west, and Isle of Venice and Lido Drive to the east.
The City of Fort Lauderdale announced that water samples from the impacted areas will be collected daily. The restriction will be lifted only after satisfactory test results confirm the water is safe.
